Are you doing anything special with your little ones for Halloween this year?
This is a great time to get in the spirit and be silly and just have fun!

It is also a great way to take some time to talk about some of the common fears children have about ghosts, spirits, and/or costumes (many children fear clowns and characters like Barney).  You can start desensitizing your scared child by showing him/her the different parts of the costume in a non-threatening and playful manner; for example, the nose of the clown, the make-up, the hair and the clothes.  Separately they may not be a threat.  Also coloring your children's faces into different characters can be considered fun, and you can show them how they changed without it being scary...  But be careful not to push your child too hard, if they seem genuinely afraid, do stop and consult with a professional...
